Being An Artist in Italy

Last Saturday, I finished taking a week-long painting and drawing course (Artist in Italy) outside Chiusi, Tuscany. It was a fantastic experience with so many wonderful things to draw… and never enough time since I work slowly. With individual instruction, my focus was to try different processes to increase my speed, cut out the pencil draft stage and use more pigment when painting (reducing the number of times I layer colours). It was uncomfortable for me, but by the week’s end, I was definitely faster.

Here are a few of the full scene sketches:

Now onto the next speed round of sketching!

  1. Although I love your prior work, in this new work I can see a more fluid approach. You are using color nicely to interpret what you see and it definitely gives a warm feeling to the scene. Bravo! All the prior sketching practice has laid the baseline and ease for your quicker approach. These are so lovely!
