For the last several weeks, I’ve been cramming to get my sketchbook done for The Sketchbook Project 2015 deadline. I waited, as per usual, until the last possible moment to get going, and then, as per usual, took on a big subject.
As you know, I love to draw during my vacations and from my vacation photos. I knew my subject for my sketchbook had to revolve around these photos. So the concept is that I’m taking quotes about Italian places from the travel journal of an author from 1850, and contrasting them with my modern-day (and hopefully more humorous) impressions from my travel journals. I’m adding drawings of my travel photos to accompany these quotes.
I’ve drawn 13 of the 15 photos, and am experimenting with watercolour washes to add more tonal values on copies of these drawings. So much yet to do, so I should get back to it. Here’s my favourite pen drawing so far.
I wish I hadn’t missed the deadline for the 2015 sketchbook project, but I probably would have ended up cramming too 😉 This is simply stunning work, keep going!
Thanks for your encouragement – it gives me some energy for the final push to the deadline!
