On a blustery Canadian morning in March, I found myself in a familiar frame of mind – basically, fed up with winter!
Looking over my photos of sunnier and warmer times, I came across this photo of Portofino, Italy from a few years back – a memory of a lovely July day spent in this Ligurian coastal town. A seafood lunch with cold Prosecco! Walking by the shops – picking up fresh foccacia. Later, people-watching in the shade with a lemon granita. It immediately made me smile…even as yet another snowstorm raged outside my studio.
This momentary escapism (or mental health technique!) has been one of the great gifts of my art practice! And hopefully these paintings provide the same exhalation and smiles to collectors!
