What’s your favourite time of year? Autumn is definitely my favourite!
I love the colours, the crunching of leaves under foot, the sky’s a little true-bluer, and I even welcome the cooler temperatures. And besides the traditions of autumn fairs and holidays, I have another tradition I look forward to – driving over to one of the only old-school variety stores in town to see their fall mums display.
This year, I was determined to paint this scene, and so from the dozens of photos I recently took, here’s the one I chose to ink and paint: “Stop For Flowers, Oakville” (2.5″ x 3.5″; ink and watercolour).

#144 – Stop For Flowers, Oakville – sold
After I posted this piece on my social media sites, and at my recent solo show, I learned that many other local people have the same autumn tradition and a deep nostalgic love of this store. It was my most talked-about piece and was quickly snatched up.
It’s always fun to discover that others share (what I think) are my slightly goofy preoccupations!

Lovely post, lovely art.
