As the days become more blustery here in Canada, my thoughts have been returning to sunnier times, like walking through the streets of Porto this past summer.
Awhile back I posted 2 miniatures of the beautiful doors I found while wandering around. And not long after, I had painted a third door, “White Porto Door”, but forgot to share it with you. This is a door that I passed several times, as it was on the way back to our rental apartment. I had resisted photographing it because it was painted white and I usually look for more colourful subjects. But on my last walk uphill past the door, I couldn’t resist taking a photo because it’s very striking set against the blue/yellow wall ceramics and the brown sandblasted walls.
When it came to painting it, I decided to incorporate something else I passed regularly that actually wasn’t in this location. Posted on a wall by our apartment were several illustration stickers by a street artist named Nuno Costah. I took photos of a few of my favourites, but selected one of a young girl wearing a funky little hat to include in this piece. If you look carefully, you’ll see her drawn onto the garbage can outside this door. Artist license! Now my memory of walks home is complete!
