For the third door mini piece, I’m taking you 1.5 hours east of Provence to the village of Triora in the hills north of the Italian Riviera.
This vibrant rust-red door and its lone rose blooms are found in this picturesque town which has earned the designation of one of the prettiest villages in Italy. However it is also known as Paese delle Streghe, or the Village of the Witches, as it was the site of Italy’s most notorious witch trials in 1588 (full story here).
Despite there being lots of witch-themed souvenirs all over town, it’s incredibly beautiful, atmospheric and has amazing views over the green Valle Argentina. A painter’s delight!
While its celebrations of witchcraft (August) and Hallowe’en are big events in Triora, we arrived into town as the Triora West Country Music Festival was wrapping up. Bales of hay, saddles, everyone in cowboy hats, Italian country music blaring, and not a witch in sight! Very unexpected!
So, that’s enough door mini’s for now – three is good! Not certain what the next stop on the Mini Vacation journey is, but stay tuned.
Very comforting to view.
Thanks for your comment, Matt! Made me look at this piece in a different light.
More incredible work! Wowza! Have a happy Sunday. Thanks for inspiring us!
Laura, thanks for your generous words and the inspiration of your daily work too!
During a hypno-trance I get lovely descriptions of doors and they are the gateway between past life and current life, creativity and denial.
Doors can be very symbolically powerful! Thanks for sharing!
