I could probably make all 100 art cards from pictures of fountains I’ve taken! But for now, here’s just one of them for card #13 – the lion fountain in Radda in Chianti.
In 2009, we drove into quiet Radda after a lazy lunch at an amazing winery because we needed a good walk and this was the nearest town. The town is quite small so the walk wasn’t really helping to burn off any of the lunch calories. I stopped in the pretty main piazza, Piazza Francesco Ferrucci, to take pictures when I saw the fountain. I don’t know if it was the wine at lunch or my imagination, but the lion face immediately reminded me of the character Scar from “The Lion King”. I yelled out “It’s Scar, it’s Scar” (which was definitely the wine talking). My son, who was on this trip, came over to the fountain and he too saw the resemblance. We wondered if the fountain inspired a Disney artist, or was the fountain head newly inspired by the movie. Hmmmm…
