Flower Pots in Beautiful Places

I decided to try to “lighten my load” this week by painting a few “mini vacations” art cards of flower pots, taken from our photos. Get away from winding streets, shutters, geometric cathedrals, etc…

But flower pots are not just found floating in the ether! They are sitting within spaces, spaces that have things in them… and me being me, things that must be drawn! So my first flower pot drawing contained ocean, rocks, people, docks… Not so quick and easy!

The art card is all about the pot though, as beautiful as the scenery is. I have a fondness for Italian ceramics, and I’ve come home with a bunch of it! The photo source for this piece was taken by my husband on a terrace in the old section of Siracusa, Sicily called Ortigia – a place he remembers fondly. He says he had a swim off that dock in the picture’s background, followed by a refreshing almond granita!

Card making has been very slow this week. I’ve been prepping for a pop-up art sale I’m in at the end of the month (my first!) and I’ve been dealing with a water leak in the studio (also my first!). Breathing and rolling with it! Flower pots in beautiful places help!

  1. I really like that pot! And, yes, I’m a fan of colourful pottery like this. As to an almond granita, not sure that would work! Oh, PS, love this artwork and your capture of the detail, as per usual. I hope your leaky studio issue is now fixed.
