I’m in Italy for the next few weeks, touring around and sketching whenever I can. Over the next few weeks, you’re going to see a lot of Italian sketches as I’ve scheduled to post more from my Sketchbook Project, too. I apologize for the Italy overload…and for what it might do to your wine and pizza budget!
A few hours after getting off the plane in Rome, I headed down to the church and piazza of Santa Maria Maggiore to sketch. On my first trip to Italy in 2005, this church was the first big “wow” I experienced, so I thought it only right to commemorate my 10 years of coming here with a sketch.
I sat in the sun on the steps of the obelisk in the square, and sketched away. Painted it a few days later. (2-page spread in a small Stillman & Birn Alpha sketchbook with a Platinum Carbon desk pen, and various watercolours).
I’m also using WordPress for iPad mini for the first time, so I hope this works!
Ciao!
Enjoy you travels and time sketching!
Can never have too much of Italy 😉 I hope you have a wonderful time, love this sketch!
Envy! Look forward to seeing Italy through your notebook!
Very nice you are talented like your mother
Hey there! Thanks for stopping in to take a look! Guess I was lucky to inherit some pretty good genes!
