I’ve just finished 2 sketching courses online with Sketchbook Skool, and I’m in the midst of another sketching course called Sketching Now.
Sketchbook Skool is 6 weeks of lessons and assignments, featuring a new instructor each week. Some of the sketching communities biggest names are your instructors, who are usually available making comments on the drawings you post. I loved their newest “kourse”, Storytelling, as the assignments took me out of my comfort zone of drawing buildings (which I love) to composing scenes… with people in them. I also enjoyed the “kourse”, Seeing, where again I sketched subjects and used tools that I hadn’t tried.
In addition to the assignments and wonderful instructors, the community of student sketchers are very encouraging and the online interface (rizuku) is easy to use.
Here’s a collage I made of my assignment homework from “Seeing” – assignments on selfies, still life drawings with different media, slow sketches with detail, seeing structures, drawing animals and nature, and objects of importance with watercolour.
And here are some of the sketching assignments that I enjoyed (and that sort of worked out) from “Storytelling”:
I’ve really enjoyed expanding my sketching skills with all the various assignments in these courses. More to come!
