At first glance, this doorway has all those charming elements that we love about Italian doors – metal lunette, climbing vines, rustic finish, and multiple interesting pots filled with flowers and plants.
If you look beyond the beauty, you’ll notice that this isn’t a door to be used, as pots are blocking the entrance. And there’s a very good reason for that! Look at the photo below to see where this door is!

There are busy streets on either side. We watched cars come up the hill (at a decent speed) to the right of the door and stop in front of the door to make their turn left or right onto the main street. If that door was being used, it could be a dangerous proposition to step outside!
At one point in history, there probably wasn’t a heavily-trafficked road behind this building. For now, safety is the order of the day! I appreciate that the owners have also chosen to beautify this corner and draw attention to it for positive reasons. But I must admit, as I was taking various photos of this corner, I almost got run down by a car speeding up that hill!

“Tuscan Street Garden” is a 2.5″ x3.5″ miniature ink and watercolour, painted onto archival watercolour paper. This painting has recently been purchased by a couple who honeymooned SAFELY in the region!

The things we do to get a great picture, risking our lives! It turned into a very sweet painting.
Yes!! At the time I thought “what a great door”. As I approached it to take the photo, a car came whizzing up the hill and only then did I understand a new rationale for the lovely little street garden in front of the door! 😳
