Painting The Glow

Oh the virus outside is frightful

So I look for things delightful

And since I’ve nowhere to go

Paint the glow, paint the glow, paint the glow!

A songwriter, I am not! But it does reflect how I’m feeling as so much uncertainty swirls around us.

Being able to paint every day has definitely helped me handle the stress of these last several months. I can meditate on the colours, the imagery, the technique and transport to other places and times while I paint. And as gathering for the upcoming holiday season seems unlikely, I decided to transport to a happier holiday with my latest miniature.

In 2018, eight of our family members went to Rome and Florence for the holidays – a long-held dream of mine to experience Italy at Christmas time. It was a wonderful holiday with most of my precious memories being the small moments like the one in this mini: walking back from dinner to our apartment under the multitudes of decorative lights strung across and hanging down over Via Tornabuoni in Florence. The brilliance of these lights gave the street a theatrical glow, and maybe that’s why I broke into a little song and dance one time when we had the street mostly to ourselves. Couldn’t help myself – it was too tempting and magical!

A Sparkly Florence Christmas

2.5″ x 3.5″ ink and watercolour

Like many many families this year, it’s probable that the 8 of us will not be getting together in person. Yet, I am so thankful I can remember and celebrate our time together through painting.

(This original miniature painting is now available; message me for information or go directly to my shop)
