Positano bites deep.

Wow, that has to be the most accurate insight on how Positano and the Amalfi Coast impacts the traveller’s psyche!

It is definitely a “pinch myself” place upon arrival. And with each day in Positano, the sense of disbelief that you’re here doesn’t wear off. I’ve stayed in this area a number of times and I can attest to being awestruck each time I stand at a viewpoint, look out a window or see it in the distance from a ferry. As Steinbeck says, it is a dream.

Then once home, each time I see a photo on my Instagram feed or catch a glimpse of it on TV, the sense of being there comes rushing back in – the ice-cold lemon granita, the smell of the jasmine blooming in the narrow lanes, the fresh sea breeze, the first morning espresso, and that exquisite view.

I’ve been talking with visitors to my art shows about their experiences with Positano and the Amalfi Coast. They get that far away look in their eye and a big smile when they talk, and I know they have been transported back there, too. Positano, you’ve been on my mind!

So last week, Positano inspired me to undertake one of my most challenging miniatures to date – “Positano Hillside”. From a 2005 photo, my first visit – this is the iconic view from in front of our hotel.

But knowing this alluring place, it will probably work its siren magic and a trip isn’t too far off for her!
