For the artist trading card event, I had planned to do 8 scenes of Burano, so after a brief Amalfi Coast-card detour, I returned to finish the last two Burano scenes. Each had their challenging bits – flagstone sidewalks, lots of laundry, water reflections, curly ironwork –  in other words, they took awhile as the deadline loomed.

I usually don’t do watercolour painting at night, as I prefer natural light to work. But I learned how to adapt to evening painting – found makeshift lighting solutions where I could get a decent handle on blending and using the watercolours. Meant having all the lights on in the studio with one clip lamp aimed at the paints – only downside was the colour-puddles on my palette dried more quickly with this light beaming down on them. Spray, spray, spray!

As much as I enjoyed drawing Burano in miniature, I will definitely take a break from this subject for awhile. Here are the Burano 7 and 8 cards.
