Porto Harbour, Portugal

I received a request to transform something from travel photography into an ink/watercolour drawing. From a selection of photos, we arrived at this one. Quite the challenge considering the piece is 5×7 (on the small side) and there’s a lot going on in this photo. The biggest decision was deciding how much detail to include, and where. You can see I went with a moderate level on the cityscape (proportion, colour, location, some value work) because it’s really the star of the photo.

It gave me a few “eye-rubbing-I-need-coffee” moments, but was great fun, too!
