What do I remember about this day in Arezzo, Tuscany over 5 years ago?
I remember marvelling at the incredible frescoes of Piero della Francesca. I remember learning Giorgio Vasari was born here, as was the advent of music notation. And I fondly recall sketching and painting in Piazza Grande and taking lots of photographs for future works.
As I was painting my latest miniature this month in chilly Canada, I thought about all the additional art I made from that one lovely Tuscan day (6 pieces!). But most importantly, I kept replaying the exact moment of this piece – sitting with 3 new friends at the end of the day in Caffetteria Sandy, laughing and sharing our day’s adventures over spectacular shots of espresso. It was such a great cup of coffee that I took a picture of it to remember it. Yes, I do love coffee that much!
I didn’t expect this cup of coffee would inspire another Arezzo piece of art, but as the quote goes “there must be art in everything”. It’s the first 2.5″ square miniature ink and watercolour in a new 3-mini Italian Coffee series: “Coffee In Arezzo”. Enjoy!
